Plane Prototype History:
The P-47 Is An American Type Of Propeller Fighter. The P-47, In A Flat Wing Single Seat Single Engine Aerodynamic Configuration, Was The Largest Single Engine Fighter Of Its Time, And Its Later M/N Models, One Of The Fastest Allied Propeller Fighters Of World War II, Were Better Suited For Ground Attack Missions In Addition To Excellent Performance In Aerial Combat. One Of The Top Three U.S. Army Air Forces Fighters Of World War II, The P-47, Began Development In The Early 1940s By For Republic Aircraft Of America, First Flew On May 6, 1941, And 15683 Were Built By For Republic Aircraft Before Production Ceased. The P-47 Was Rated As One Of The Top Three U.S. Army Air Forces Fighters Of World War II, The Other Two Being The For North American P-51 And For Lockheed P-38. The P-47 Was Also The Most Produced American Fighter Of World War II. At One Point In Those Brilliant Days Of 1944, The U.S. Army Air Forces Had No Fewer Than 31 First-Line Fighter Groups Operating P-47s. P-47s Were Active At The Forefront Of All U.S. Forces, Including Alaska, With About Two-Thirds Of P-47s Equipped To Combat Forces Deployed Overseas. Over Two And A Half Years From March 1943 To August 1945, These P-47s Flew Over Half A Million Combat Sorties, Destroying Over 12000 Enemy Aircraft In The Air And On The Ground. A Total Of 5222 Were Lost In World War II, But Only 824 Of Them Were Battle Damaged, The Equivalent Of 54% Of P-47s Deployed Overseas That Ended Up Destroyed By Accidents And Enemy Fire, A Fairly Typical Loss Rate In Wartime. The P-47'S True Battle Loss Rate Was Only 0.7%, A Very Low Figure. By The End Of The War, The P-47 Had Achieved An Overall Air Combat Exchange Ratio Of 1:4.6. A Total Of 132482 Tons Of Bombs Were Statistically Dropped, 59567 Rockets Were Fired, And 135 Million Rounds Were Fired. In The European Theatre, From D-Day Landings To European Victory, A Total Of 86000 Wagons, 9000 Locomotives, 6000 Armoured Vehicles And Tanks, 68000 Trucks, 2752 Aerial Medium Enemy Aircraft, 3315 Ground Enemy Aircraft Were Destroyed.
